View Full Version : Claire's New Album

before everyone rushes to their local Tower Records, this is just an idea that I had. Note: there is no official album or rumored album being released, this is just my imagination.

I was thinking Claire should release an album covering the hit songs by her American Idol, Karen Carpenter. I've hastily put together a concept album cover and track listing. Let me know what you think.

Cover (note the sticker would be removeable):

i voted rainy days and mondays... also 'tender LOVING claire' would be better don'tcha think? :p like the proper saying... but thats my opinion :)

i also don't think she should EVER release a covers album... i want new material

I voted for Close to You as it's one of the most recognisable Burt Bacharach songs and a golden oldie favourite that would go down well on Radio 2

Title is cheesy and inspired although...................... it does sound a little like a blue movie

thanks for all the feedback everyone. i'm glad people like it (maybe if Claire sees it, she'll get some ideas...?)

yeah, I wasnt really sure what the real saying was, cuz i always just hear it as TLC. i think a covers album may be a good way to get her foot back in the door since she's been away for so long. it would be silly to sing Steps-like songs half a decade later because music has changed. it would also be risky to pull off a genre that she feels uncomfortable with, even if it may be more now. i think a cover album let's her feel the market and how receptive it is to her return. not everyone she targets will be a diehard Steps fan, seeing that our numbers are dwindling everyday.

here's the correction (tender LOVING claire):

lol she isnt going to see it.

and when she does do something its highly unlikely to be a covers album... shes not waning to kill her career before shes even had a start at it!

Don't know a couple of those songs so went for Close To You. it's by far the most regocnisable (IMO) Carpenters song and if we are talking success that would probably be the one to do best. However i would love a proper version of Superstar as I loved her version on Stars In Their Eyes and also think she'd do a good job of Rainy Days & Mondays. I like the idea of this album but I wouldn't want it as a debut solo album. I want new original Claire material first!!!

yeah, i see what you mean. she needs to establish herself as Claire before she steps into others' shoes.

she needs to establish herself as Claire before she steps into others' shoes.

on the contrary, from what I remember, as far as we were led to believe, when Claire & H got together one of the reasons given was because Claire herself said she lacked the confidence to "go it alone" as a solo artist.
Her performance on Stars in their eyes was superb and proved that she could. Ive no doubt that if shed actually won that, her solo confiidence wouldve been boosted no end.
A Carpenters Classic like "Weve Only Just Begun" or "Yesterday Once More" would show just what shes capable of, and diversify her away from the "Steps" image of "naff" & "cheesey", especially if the correct approach for production of the track was taken i.e. getting Richard Carpenter himself to produce it.
I'm not saying it would get to No 1, (with the changing faces of the charts these days nothing is a guarantee) but it would certainly get her noticed and give her more credibility as an artist, especially after Lisas dismal attempts.

I think she could possibly cover a carpenters track, but id like to see it as an aa side with something modern and upbeat.

And as for getting number one... who knows what the charts will be like when she returns... I reckon this year could be quite important... people seem to be into decent dance (madonna etc) more now, and a mature poppy sound might get more socially accepted next year

ppl check out www.infernal.dk I'd love to hear something like this!

i was contemplating this idea earlier today actually (remixing the background music to the songs). the one i was tossing around was Superstar with a dance mix but some people might think it not sticking with the original mood of it. then again, dance is in, so if this were to happen, why not give it a shot? maybe not make it the main version, but have it on the single version.

Quazar
8th Mar 2006, 02:01
Certainly wouldnt have a dance version as the main release.
The idea is to boost her credibility as a singer, not an offshoot or re-incarnation of a solo steps. (where Lisa already failed)
Bear in mind, she'll still be called "Claire from Steps" by the press, so she needs something good and totally away from that mould to make other people take notice and realise shes got a lot more.
Something along the lines that Liz from AK has done, its not a super fantastic track, but its got her noticed again.
(Notice how both Jen from AK and Lisa have both flopped with their dance stuff)

if Claire were to return to the music scene, what sound (musical direction) do you think she'll have?

ClaireFan1984
10th Mar 2006, 19:22
I think if she went along the lines like Liz Mclarnon and Celiene Dion, that would be good. Definately new material and yesterday once more as a b side

I would say Superstar and Rainy Days and Mondays.

I'd say "We've only just begun" & also "Superstar" are good songs. But like everyone else has already said... new material would be best x

and i think new material would be the best however an odd cover would do no harm as people wont want 100% new stuff, its too much to adjust and get used to, a cover allows you to sing along with straight away lol

ya celine dion type of music because she does really have a lovely voice

clairebear
18th Aug 2006, 11:56
yeah she would be amazing if she took that direction but Celine's not really that credible really is she, i mean shes a fantastic vocalist and has a huge fan base im sure but shes not 'cool' like Beyonce or kylie.
But saying that Lisa kinda took a Kylie direction and fell flat on her face so .....who knows.
I just wanna hear some new stuff from Claire anyway, its been way too long!!!
