MTV's "super boyband" members announced:) :)
Five former boyband members have come together to form a new "ultimate boyband" with the hopes of staging a triumphant return to the charts.
The group is being put together for a new TV series, Totally Boyband, which airs on MTV from September 17.
The hopefuls in the as-yet untitled five-piece are Another Level's Dane Bowers, age 26; Jimmy Constable of 911, 34; Steps star Lee Latchford Evans, 31; S Club 7's Bradley McIntosh, 24; and 37-year-old Danny Wood of pioneering boyband New Kids On The Block.
The band, who will be managed by Charlotte Church's mentor Jonathan Shalit, met for the first time at a press conference this morning. All claimed to be excited at the prospect of staging a comeback, although Wood was more realistic about their chances. "If it doesn't work out I can just go home," he said, having admitted that he had "no idea" who his new bandmates were.
Cameras will now follow the boys as they write and record their first single, due for release on October 23.

As far as I know at the moment, it'll only be for one single.
I really don't wanna say too much more cause I'll end up putting words into Lee's mouth. I'll let you all know when the sites updated.

I think it will probably be a failure but am sooo excited about it as I think it will make great TV.
More Lee on TV can't be a bad thing and maybe he'll get the chance to sing this time around (not including The Latch of course).

LOl IM SORRY! Im pretty sure some of the people slagging this were well up for Totally SCOTT-LEE. Hmmmmmmm.
Secondly.......lol whats wrong with u lot, its potentially genius! Youve basically got the fans from 5 different acts/bands coming together to support the same thing. Plus youve got the added element of it being on Tv thus bringing in MORE people to support it. On Paper it cannot fail!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course theres always a chance it will, you should never discount the wild card ( ie nothing can be 100% predicted) but to me I can't beleive no-ones done this b4!

Yes there actually WERE an army of 911 fans. There were even more NKOTB fans and no theyre not all on zimmer frames, what an immature thing to say. They're just grown ups!:lol2:
No of course not every fan will still be interested, in fact most won't probably. But there will still be a respectable percentage. Then you've still got the Sclub and Steps fans. who will support it. I can't see how anyone can't understand all this tbh!

911 spent only 45 weeks in the top 40 so I suppose you could say they were a fanbase act but is that fanbase still around?
It can only have limited potential because the show is on mtv and it has a limited audience and if they are only releasing one single I cant see the programme makers taking it too seriously

Yeah but its not supposed to be a hugely sucessful act of our time. I think the idea is thats its only gonna be one single. Thats usually the real point to these things, whatever they say. Just make a sucessful Tv show and one reasonably sucessful single. At the end of the day all 5 are probably only doing to promote something ( like Lee is) and get themselves some exposure. As long as the whole thing gets sufficiant promo then thats exactly what they will get and probably a top 10 single into the bargin!

20th Jul 2006, 20:16
Lol, well hopefully MTV won't have a 'top ten or quit' clause THIS time!
I dunno, when I first read it this morning I was all 'WTF'?? It'll be a laugh yea, but how much will it help any of them really. Its likely that there won't be much of a chance to promo their own careers that much. Its just wierd that hes doing this naff show, when hes spent SO long trying to shake the naff tag of him.
As for Danny....they could at LEAST have had Jordan instead..or even Danny from Hear'say at a push!

try and look at it from this point of view...
Totally Scott-Lee took Lisa, and asked her to do something with her career and lively hood and as history now shows, ballsed it all up...
From the inital press release and what I understand, Totally Boyband is taking 5 people from their day to day lives and asking to something that they wouldnt be doing if it wasnt for the tv show.
Lisa would have carried on looking for a record deal even if MTV wasn't filming her... in hindsight she probably wishes she'd said no to MTV
Do you think Lee would be joining this boyband if there wasnt an MTV/Channel 4 tvshow...
anyway if it works out... he's got himself a load of new contacts and his foot in the door at a record label(s)
if it doesn't, he goes back to gigging with the latch... which I have no doubt in my mind he will do, cause he's told me so!
and of course he'll still have the contacts, and extra exposure it'll bring, no matter how little... its exposure he wouldn't get otherwise...
people need to realise this is how the industry works

1. to the person who said Lee is doing this naff show after trying to shake the naff tag for so long....well, he probably figured he's not shaking it off at all, so why not just use it?
2. This could potentially work, in paper. If they are all as commited as Lee and have great voices, like Lee and Bradley, then this will work....especially if someone convinces Lee to take his shirt off at some point ;) (J/K)
3. Am I the only one who remembers the thread about Steps & S Club 7 members forming a band? well, there you have it! (sort of).
Good luck to Lee, hope he does better than poor Lisa.

All I can say about this is Oh dear.
By boyband, Im assuming they will release a pop single, maybe something like the Backstreet boys. I don't think thats such a good idea on Lee's behalf, as I like him much better doing the type of music like he has with The Latch.
Also I hope Mtv is not using a logo that mimics the design used for Totally Scott Lee, because that will just remind people about that show, which im sure cannot be the best thing, as Lisa did end up embarassing herself with the show.
I do hope they do well though, and I still support him.

MTV have described Totally Boyband as the follow up to Totally Scott-Lee.

if it was askign lee to make the latch get a top tne record then yes.. but its not.
Lay off him, he's doing what he needs to to get people to get to know his band.

Tragedy!! :lol2:
Totally Scott-Lee, was basically a 'Get a Top 10 or else' kinda thing...
...this seems more like just an experiment, to see if 5 former pop band members can join together and have a hit single...
As long as the show continues to come across that way, and doesn't get too serious about the success of the single, it shouldn't really be a bad thing...
