"American Idol" stomps to top; Kelly Clarkson coming back
Posted on Apr 4, 2007 11:46:43 AM
"American Idol" wins again. But you knew that. The real news: Kelly Clarkson (pictured) will return to the show for the "Idol Gives Back" episode, a charity spectacular on April 25.
Also on the guest list that night: Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Gwen Stefani, Helena Bonham Carter, "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe ... But Clarkson's return to the show is the big deal because the first "Idol" will perform. Hooray.
"Idol" pulled in 25.7 million viewers Tuesday night, easily the biggest show of the evening.
In second place at 8 p.m. was CBS' "NCIS" with 13.7 million viewers. "Dateline NBC" was a distant third with 5.7 million.
At 9 p.m., Fox ruled with "House" delivering 21 million viewers. ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results show attracted a respectable 14.7 million fans. In third: CBS' underrated "Unit" with 9.9 million.
At 10 p.m., "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" presented a harrowing drama about underage drinking, and 11.2 million were riveted. ABC's "Boston Legal" was the court of choice for 10.1 million. CBS used a "CSI: Miami" repeat to plug a hole, and nearly 8 million watched.
Fox, of course, was the most-watched network with an average 23.3 million in prime time. The rest: CBS with 10.5 million, ABC with 9.7 million, NBC with 8 million and The CW with 2.2 million. In the 18-to-49 age group, the networks finished in this order: Fox, CBS, a tie between ABC and NBC, then The CW.
Oh, and here's another reminder of other celebrities taking part in "Idol Gives Back." The guests previously announced were Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Pink, Michael Bublé, Il Divo and Sacha Baron Cohen playing Borat. I thought Borat would be the big draw. Now it's Clarkson.
