I have no idea, but i'm glad i dont have to them, all i have to do is some stupid literacy test (read a paragraph and answer multiple choice questions) and i did it last year (grade 10)! I am going to take the SATs incase i go to a school in the states!

OM(F'IN)G you are very lucky! We poor uk students have to do around 10 exams before we leave school (at 16!!!) all of which we are expected to get above 50% on to pass eithen. They are sooooo evil!!! Oh well GCSE's are very easy anyways. Wait till u go to college, assuming your not in college haha. Alevel's suck!!!

No, students in Canada and the states dont leave school until they're 17, but i hear u cant drive til then, in states they get to at 15 and in Canada 16. I 'm probably not going to do GSCE's or A levels because i'm going to go to the Toronto FIlm School and then move to England and get a job at the BBC or something, but i'm deffinatley moving to england after college!

LOL, well i have to agree to the law of not allowing 15 year olds to drive. OMGosh, can u imagine what would happen here if they where lol!!!
Hmmm moving to England. well its not the best of places for chances for the future! plus think of all the people you will be leaving behind, not trying to stop you but helping haha. Then again closer to sclub8, mush better :) Ive always wanted to move from here :D
Good on you going to college!!! College = Geek!!! Which i think is the so-called "cool" haha

Canada's schooling system has no standards, it's just if you get good grade complete a reading test, and volunteer for 40 hours of community service and your into a university. That's why i'm going to a private college where I actually have to be good at what I want to do ti get in!

that's really good considering GSCE's (hope that's how to spell them!umm...) they are exams and don't you have to do really well in them to graduate? so that's pretty good! is that mark overall? where did you find that out? ;)

Different people take differing numbers. Some will just take the core subjects (English, maths and a forreign language (and a science? can't remember if that's mandatory)) while others will do more. In addition to the core subjects there's a hefty range of other things you can study. ( FYI, I took 10. :) )
At the end of the day, GCSE's don't seem to mean anything to employers anymore, they're increasingly used just as a stepping-stone before A-Levels.

Here's a really brief expanation of the UK education system ;)
Year 1-7 - Primary School (ages 4-11ish)
Year 8-11 - Secondary School (ages 11-16ish)
Year 12-13 - Sixth Form or College (age 17-18)
GCSEs are taken in year 10 and 11 (15-16 years old). A-Levels are optional and are normally done in years 12-13 (17-18 years old). They're basically one-up from GCSEs, though even A-Levels are meaning less to employers with so many people taking them.
Assuming you have the necessary A-Level grades you can then go to study at University if you wish.

Yeah. College in the UK and the USA aren't comparible. College in the USA is more like university is in the UK. At least, that's how I understand it.

Yeah. College in the UK and the USA aren't comparible. College in the USA is more like university is in the UK. At least, that's how I understand it.
So what is college in the UK and what is university? In the US you either go to a college or a university after high school but you get the same thing-your bachelors degree. The difference is a university offers graduate degrees but if you're coming from high school you're only going to go to the college part of the university. Then you apply again to go to univerisities and get your graduate degree if you want one. And we only have to take 1 test, the SAT or the ACT. Both don't test on anything learned after 10th grade (school goes to 12th). Most seniors don't even half to take final exams to graduate, my school has exemptions based on number of absences and grade! :)
So what grade are you done schooling in the UK? Or what grade and how old are you) are you done with school to get a pretty good job? In the US that'd be college which lasts 4 years and you'd be about 21 or 22 when you're done. I've heard lots of exchange students from Europe say that US school is much easier and more social then European schools! :P
BTW in the US you can drive when your 16, not 15. At 15 you get your permit and you can drive but only with a licensed driver. It's helpful because you need to drive to school cuz usually you stay after with activities so school buses are no help. We don't have the nice tranportation systems England has (or I've heard).

From what you've described, it seems that university in the US is (unsurprisingly) exactly the same as a university in the UK... There isn't really an equivalent of a college except for some universities which don't offer post-graduate courses.

Well, compulsory education ends after your GCSEs at the age of 16 (year 11). However, GCSEs don't really mean anything these days so a great number go on to do A-Levels. These are more meaningful than GCSEs and can help you get a job if you choose not to go any further.
A great many (mysef included) are now going on to study at university despite the huge debt you end up with, and it's having a degree which is likely to land you one of the better jobs. The length of university courses vary. Most bachelor degrees (BSc, BA, etc) are three years.

Ahahaha! Haha... Ahahaha. Ahem, sorry. I've "only" visited the USA twice in the last few years but I'd say your transportation system is far superior to that of the UK's.

i have no idea what GSCEs are because i live in Canada and we don't have those here....but for all of you complaining about exams just be glad that you're not in my boat...i'm taking full ib (international baccelaureate) and i have to take 2 sets of exams at the end of my grade 12 year....one set for ib, and one set for my provinces education system. plus i'm taking the SATs and ACTs just in case i go to university in the united states. ahhhh.....but back to the topic, i'm pretty sure that aaron would do well on his GSCEs because he just seems like a bright kid, and he must be pretty dedicated because he was taking them during idream and because of that he didn't get much air time :( so i'd guess he'd be a pretty dedicated student....unless you can only take them at one time during the year......k, now i'm a little confuzzled....meh!
