Do you figure that somewhere, buried now in some landfill, are many, many copies of STEPS' single "Baby Don't Dance?"

They could've actually released it instead of burning them or selling them on EBay

Erm I doubt that - I still stick with my theory that the writers of the song decided they didn't want it released because if you look at the credits in Gold they haven't written any other Steps songs.

And I think Pete Waterman bought ALL the unsold Steps and Kylie CDs and is sitting in a rocking chair surrounded by hundreds of CDs going "why did I let them go!"

...but they did allow it to go on The Last Dance (well, it was a remix, but still the same song...) which was released around the same time that Baby Don't Dance was supposed to be... also, it was on Gold anyway.

I think it's more likely that H and Claire didn't want it to be released.

I think that Jive realised they had had no radioplay - no video channel coverage and pulled it cus it was never gonna make profit....

tis a good thing they pulled it... it would have ruined the steps memory. If they had released it when it was originally inteneded to be released (feb 2002) then they would have sold more as it would have cashed in on all the press coverage about the "solo" stuff aswell...

Do you know, I don't think that you're wrong there - it's always the same person anyway and always the same information/description/photo that's in the advert.

Maybe, once they've sold all of these, they'll start selling another unreleased single on ebay? Afterall - £25 a time is more than they'd get of they were were selling them in HMV! lol.

ive just bought one on ebay, and god are they hard to track down. mines coming from oz so there goes your theory of jive selling them on!!!!

and before anyone says im mad for paying over £40 + for a single cd. i say we all spend our money on frivalous things that make us happy, and at least i can say my collection is complete apart from a few rare remixs off of promos that keep coming to my attention that i never knew existed!!! grrrrr

I'd say they are probably all floating around, loads of websites/magazines/radios got sent copies because Dotmusic reviewed it, suggesting they got promo copies.

I would think that any they do have left they would sell on e-Bay, I mean, Jive is an international company, so they could easily have sent them to a warehouse in another country because they would never be used otherwise.

I don't know what happens to the promo copies sent to radios, etc. I assume the institutions send them back, and Jive probably didn't want them back, so aside from a landfill, it's more likely they're in some sorting office somewhere.

i know of friends who are friends of djs and they have come into possesion of promo cds. i think whatever isnt needed is given away to family and friends, perks of the job i guess.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, my mates Dad works in HMV and I remember I got S Club 7's debut album from him before it was released in a slip case.
