I thought this was a new thread regarding newly recorded tracks by Steps since all of Steps "seemed" to be so free...

I definately believe that there are tracks we've not heard yet - there was their second line dancing single which was pulled, tracks which didn't make it onto Buzz - 'To Be Your Hero' was supposed to be on Steptacular, but it never made it. Then look at how far in advance everything was done - they'd done photoshoots for Baby Don't Dance way in advance, around the time of Here and Now / You'll Be Sorry judging by their hair.
...and then there's the rumour about Step Two. I don't think an album exists, but I reckon there are a few tracks. Remember the Last Dance? "containing 40 tracks and unreleased material" which later became "20 b-sides and remixes".
Suspicious... lol. But I doubt we'll ever hear the tracks anyway.

 Why would Jive be releasing tracks from the band when there's no money to be made?

we aren't sure whether they've specially posed a piccie for Baby Don't Dance, do we?
Like THE Max Martin track.. I'm pretty sure too, there are loads of songs that didn't make it to the albums or as b-sides...

They did pose for pics spefically for BDD. everything was in place for that till SOME people decided they wanted out early!
and yeah there are loads of unreleased tracks, piles and piles or it and no u prolly wont ever hear them! lol and no Steps wont be recording any new stuff, at least not for a a very very long time. Just coz u cant see them doing stuff dosent mean theyre not!

Think about it any songs that Steps recorded that never made it might have already been released by someone else under a different (or the same) title!
If the songs where good enough I'm sure another act/group would have been given the songs.

Eventually, imho, with diminishing bank accounts one of two things will happen. There'll be a STEPS reunion, or they will all sign contracts to allow one more album to be released of all the songs that didn't make the cut and never got around to being released.
They said they'd never reunite but so did the Spice Girls, and look at that lot. Never say never to anything. If their solo stuff goes as good as it has been, look forward to some STEPS news....

But the Spice Girls are ony apparently getting back together to do what Steps did before they split up.
Personally, I think Steps are gone. They were too successful to get back together, there are too many fans that would say they're just doing it for the money, too many that would say what they did to their fans was bad enough, and to then take it back would be even worse.
And to be honest, in terms of the state of the charts, they'd never compete with the likes of Beyonce, Xtina, etc. these days.
Perhaps if S Club had stuck around, there would still be a market for them, but because of the passing of basically the only groups left doing proper pop music, their market has moved on (hence S Club 8 struggling), and I don't think many would be willing to take a step backwards and get back into pop as Steps did it.

Sorry but the Spice Girls were sadly even more succesful than the Steps project. Well, in rcord sales terms atleast. Well, atleast I think so! B)

b4 they released gold and did the gold tour, i always thought that like 10 years after the split they'd release a greatest hits album and get back together and do a reunion tour.
it's shame 2 think that that won't happen now.
I do believe chrisbailey when he says that there are songs by Steps that we still havent heard! And I do wish that we had the chance to hear them, its just a shame we didnt!

I agree. They do exist and they're probably gone to other artists, if they were any good.
I guess we'll never know!

yeh - there will be songs that they recorded that'll never see the light of day - but its the same with any artist!
You generally record a lot more songs for an album than ur gonna use - and if the songs arnt right for another album in the future - or theyre simply not good enuff - they'll never be released!
We'd all love to hear more songs by them - but the fact is - its v unlikely....

hmm when my band start recording after split we'll release "new" songs

I remember that each of the group recorded around 10 solo tracks each for Buzz, then they each chose one to go on it - so those tracks could still be lying around somewhere. But Jive might as well leak them onto the net lol, there's no money to be made out of releasing them.

there's also "love crime" & "no rhyme no reason" and an alternative version of turnaround.....

however, i heard a rumour that jives right to steps music has expired.........

The lyrics to a track called Left You Behind were on a website just before they split. Also Run To You. A duet between H and Claire. Suppod to be a fast one!

I went back to look at an news archive site at:
http://hclaire0.tripod.com/newsarc/id16.html .
On the 16th of Dec 2001, a news entry, of whatever reliability, talks about and describes about 14 tracks that were being considered for the Steps Two album. The way the tracks are described, to me it sounds like at least some of them were already laid down on tape, at least to some extent. Some of them sound like quite interesting songs. I'd love to have been able to hear them. Who knows, maybe someday...

here it is in full :
1: INTRO - yes, it's Step2 and it also has an intro, which starts fast and slows down to the pace of the first song.
2: Stay (S. Mac/W. Hector) - y'know, the Westlife people! This might not appeal to you but it will at least get radio play.
3: Left You Behind (Mirwais Ahmadzai) - this might just be the first single, think All Saints meets Madonna. Quite guitary, yet quite dancey. Not too fast and not too slow.
4: Don't Say You Love Me (Mirwais Ahmadzai/N. Young) - erm, hello? Aren't Steps songs supposed to be fast?
5: Strangers (F. Tozer/L. Evans/C. Porter/A. Carlsson) - That's more like it. This is a better "Here & Now".
6: Say The Words (I. Watkins/A. Frampton) - slushy number with lead vocals from H & Claire. Sound familiar?
7: Tonight (Mirwais Ahmadzai/L. Scott-Lee/I. Watkins) - DANCE ALERT! Best track by a mile. Fastest track too. This IS going to blow up in the charts when it's released, that's when, not if.
8: Don't Come Back To Me (F. Tozer/S. Mac/W. Hector) - what do you follow up the best track on the album with? Another amazing track of course! Faye shares the lead with Claire in this, which is always a good thing. It's a very chunky pop track, quite like something 'N Sync would release, only better - since it's Steps and all that.
9: A Little More Time (Topham/Twigg) - AUWCH! Sorry, but this is painful. Why have they inflicted a PWL track on us beside all these fancy producers? It really is bad, but it might not make the album if they find anything better...anything that is. It's a bit like a second rate "Summer Of Love".
10: Run To You (Mirwais Ahmadzai/C. Richards/I. Watkins) - Really good dance track. Loads of strange noises and distorted bits throughout. Makes up for the previous track, if that's at all possible!
11: Fine (C. Richards/F. Tozer/L.Scott-Lee) - really girly aggressive track aimed at boys who walk out. Quite a disco feeling in there, but not second rate "Stomp" eg. Baby Don't Dance - which by the way, has been scrapped as a single.
12: Boogie (L. Scott-Lee) - WOW! A Lisa solo, with the others joinging her in the chorus. This is a really fiery song which starts and stops - sounds strange but you will know what I'm talking about, it has that kind of jumpy rhythm. Superb.
13: No Rhyme, No Reason (Topham/Twigg) - no, No, NO! I said NO PWL! NONE! ZILCH! This is pure cheese from start to finish. Period.
14: Right From The Start (F. Tozer/L. Evans/C. Porter) - striking way to finish the album, with this little beauty. Thank god they didn't stop at #13.
So that's Step2. Some of the songs could change, in particular I'm hoping "A Little More Time" & track 13 are deleted. But the likes of "Left You Behind", "Tonight", "Fine" are sure to remain. I look forward to the release of this album, it is better than "Step One" & "Buzz" which I feel is an achievement in itself. I think GOLD was used to throw us, since they said they wouldn't alienate us. Some of this isn't classic Steps, but for instance "Tonight" is sooo catchy you almost forget about LTOMM, Stomp etc.

You prob found this on Steps Home Uk. The only way of even having hope of finding or hearing these tracks is to find out who run the site, and ask who wrote the review...... I've found a clip of a song called I'm Letting You Go. Sounds like a lisa solo although I can't be sure. It was listed as Steps: I'm Letting You Go. Anyone else heard this track??? Because I'm not totally convinced it's them.

...that information was supposedly from Jack at Steps Official though... hmm... it also talks about Baby Don't Dance in brief... why oh why didn't they get these tracks on the Last Dance (if they exist) lol.
One or two things that I think cast doubt on it though:
11: Fine (C. Richards/F. Tozer/L.Scott-Lee)
Would they really be able to write a song together without help?
12: Boogie (L. Scott-Lee)
A somewhat unlikely song title for Steps...
Well I've decided what I'm going to do - I'm going to dress as Pete Waterman and get into the Jive records archives. :D lol.
Hmm... looking at the names of the songs, I've not heard any other artists do them - so either they don't exist, weren't very good, or members of Steps wrote them.
Shaggy
17th Jan 2004, 13:17
Lol Go on, I dare ya! It might be poss that Fine was written without help although unlikely as Faye and Lisa can play piano can't they?
Faye reproduced If You Believe herself so I suppose it's possible.
Boogie is to much along the lines of Stomp I think.
